The Benefits of Chiropractic Care For Babies & Toddlers
The primary advantage for toddlers lies in their ability to grow optimally with minimal hindrance from a spine that may not be developing properly or from a brain that may face challenges in effectively communicating with the body. Those toddlers who receive chiropractic care often exhibit increased calmness, improved sleep patterns, enhanced articulation of feelings, reduced instances of anger outbursts, and improved behavior regulation compared to their peers who do not undergo chiropractic care.
Specialized Chiropractic Care for Babies & Toddlers
Chiropractic care for babies is a gentle and holistic approach aimed at promoting the healthy development of the infant's spine and nervous system. At Thrive, Dr. Keltie understands the delicate nature of a baby's musculoskeletal system and employs gentle, specialized techniques to address any potential misalignments. Birth itself, even under the best circumstances, can lead to stress on a baby's spine. Chiropractic adjustments for infants are safe and gentle, involving soft touches and mild movements to ensure comfort and well-being. Many parents seek chiropractic care for their babies to address issues such as torticollis, colic, and difficulty breastfeeding. By supporting the natural alignment of the spine, chiropractic care for babies aims to enhance overall health and well-being, setting the stage for a lifetime of optimal development.

Frequently Asked Questions
Dr. Keltie answers common questions about chiropractic services for infants and what to expect during your visit.
Yes.
Think of your child’s spine like you do with teeth. Most often, people don’t wait until there is an issue with teeth to take a child to a dentist. They have done a phenomenal job teaching the importance of preventive and routine care for your teeth. As soon as your child starts getting teeth they start seeing the dentist, or very soon thereafter. Your child is born with a spine and developing nervous system, it’s best to take your child to a chiropractor immediately and while they grow to ensure they are growing with no issues. You have gone to the dentist and been unaware of cavities developing, the same can happen when you take your child to a chiropractor. We are trained to see things you may not pick up on.
Chiropractic care is not a specific treatment for specific conditions, however, many parents report seeing incredible changes in children’s abilities to self regulate better, less anger outbursts, higher tolerance for excess stimulus, less fights with siblings, better attention span, better communication, less sensory issues, etc.
The best benefit for toddlers is growing properly with the least amount of interference from a spine that is not developing properly or from a brain that is having a hard time communicating to the body as well as it could. Toddlers often become calmer, sleep better, are better able to articulate their feelings, have less anger outburst and less trouble regulating their behavior than toddlers that are not under chiropractic care.
A chiropractic adjustment for a toddler is far lighter and can often look more like a massage than a traditional adjustment like an adult. It is often better to use an instrument that is preset to a specific pounds of pressure over the doctor's thumb or finger to deliver the adjustment. The approximate amount of pressure used to adjust a toddler would be equivalent to putting slightly uncomfortable pressure on your own eye ball, or enough pressure to bruise a ripe tomato.
If they missed crawling, delay in walking, walking on their toes, walking with their toes turned out or in, delay in speech, difficulty articulating feelings, difficulty controlling behavior for their age, anger outbursts, bitting or hitting, having a consistent head tilt to one side in pictures, one eye is smaller than the other one, one ear sits higher than the other one, can’t bend over and touch their toes, have a hard time balancing, are “clumsy”, struggle with hand eye coordination movements.
This is highly dependent on the child and what is going on with them for how frequent. A healthy child that wants to grow and develop well will often do well every 2-3 weeks, I adjust my kids every week. As for how long are toddler adjustment sessions, again it depends on the child. A child that loves it and listens can be checked well in a matter of minutes (after the initial assessment). A child that does not necessarily enjoy being adjusted in the beginning may take longer and it may need to be broken up meaning I will start, when they have had enough they get to play while I adjust someone else and then return and finish when they are ready. I have adjusted kids on the kids tables, on mom or dad, while playing with toys in the reception area or even on the run, I adapt to whatever your child needs at the moment to the best of my ability.
Absolutely! The type of technique depends on the child. I am classically trained in Thompson, diversified, MC2, activator, SOT, cranial sacral and MLS. All different techniques can be adapted to the light touch that a child requires.
I always try to make it fun and a safe environment for them, we have toys to explain things to the child, we prepare them before we do anything so they know what to expect. We ask them permission so they feel empowered and heard. They are encouraged to let us know if they don’t like anything.
