Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Keltie answers common questions about chiropractic services for children and what to expect during your visit.

Is chiropractic care safe for children, and are there any specific considerations for this age range?

Yes.

The considerations for this age group are developmental milestones, both physically, emotionally, and socially.  Social engagement and how well children engage socially can help a chiropractor truly see what amount of care a child at this age needs on top of the functional tests that are performed in the office.

What potential benefits can children in this age group experience from chiropractic care?

Children this age can benefit in the traditional sense, less aches and pains, less headaches, less growing pains. Parents also often report less anger outbursts, less fighting with siblings, better able to articulate their needs, improved reading, improved concentration in school, overall calmer.

Are there specific conditions or issues in children that chiropractic care can address effectively?

Chiropractic doesn’t treat conditions specifically. The goal with chiropractic care is to get the child to operate at their optimum potential.

A great example is a car, you have different size engines that have different capabilities, you can’t make a 4 cylinder car work like a 6 cylinder car, but you sure can get the maximum potential out of the 4 or 6 cylinder engine.

Some chiropractors will say you can treat x, y or z, but this is not really the case. The premise is always the same that you are getting the body working better on it’s own and then a lot of reported symptoms or conditions improve or go away completely.

Can chiropractic care help with common childhood issues like posture problems, growing pains, or sports-related injuries?

Yes, the biggest impact is posture.  Posture is simply a reflection of how well the body is navigating through gravity.  When a body is struggling to resist gravity it starts to appear as poor posture.  When the brain and body get better connected through adjustment, posture almost always improves, including those that suffer with scoliosis issues (depending if it’s functional or structural scoliosis, structural scoliosis is harder to help).

Growing pains often go away with chiropractic care.

Sports related injuries often respond well to chiropractic care. We assess if we can help, and are happy to refer you to more specialized professionals if an injury is out of our ability to help!

Can chiropractic care be integrated with other aspects of pediatric healthcare, such as visits to a pediatrician or orthopedic specialist?

Yes this is encouraged. Chiropractic is a vital part of a healthy growing child but it is certainly not the only part. A healthy child needs a health care team, Dr. Keltie will work and communicate with any other health care provider to make sure the best thing is happening for your child.

How can I prepare my child for a chiropractic session, and what can they expect during the appointment?

The best thing to prepare a child is to empower them, let them know that if they are uncomfortable with anything that is done to let us know. That it’s going to feel more like playing silly games then a traditional doctors appointment and that chiropractors are often the fun doctors.
